Spam indicator
Empty about page
What it checks
Whether the channel has a description, the text viewers see when they open the channel's "more" panel (what used to be the About tab).
The exact rule
- It fires (100%) when the description is empty. A description of spaces alone counts as empty.
- Any other text passes, even a single word.
- It is N/A when the checker holds no description record for the channel.
Why it can point to spam
A description is where a real creator says who they are and what the channel is for. Spam and reupload channels have nothing to say there, and often leave it blank.
When it fires on a legitimate channel
Many small creators, and some large ones, never write a description. Music artists and channels that exist only to host videos embedded elsewhere often leave it empty too.
How to change it
If you run the channel, write a few sentences about it in YouTube Studio:
- Sign in to YouTube Studio.
- In the left menu, select Customization, then Profile.
- Enter the channel description.
- Click Publish.
Say what the channel is about, who makes it and how often new videos come out. That helps viewers more than it helps this check, which only asks whether the text is there.
